A Lesson in Obedience

So, I posted my first post back in February and here I am for number two, in the middle of July. It’s been too long.

I want to open with complete honesty. I know that I need to be consistent with this because I know God is calling me to do it. It was birthed into my spirit over a year and a half ago.

However, I’ve struggled.

Why would God want me to do this? I’m not special. I haven’t been through enough. I haven’t been a ‘perfect’ follower. No one wants to hear from me. I’m not qualified enough for this.

None of those thoughts matter, none of them are from God.

They are all lies, either lies I tell myself or lies from the enemy.

Due to these thoughts, I’ve put this off.

Due to laziness, I’ve put this off.

Due to ‘busyness’, I’ve put this off.

Due to a lack of confidence, I’ve put this off.

Due to a lack of obedience, I’ve put this off.

I was originally going to title this ‘A Lesson in Confidence.’ However, I realized confidence isn’t what He wanted me to take from this, it’s the need for obedience to His voice.

God doesn’t want my perfect, He doesn’t want me to rattle of what makes me qualified. He wants me to listen and be obedient to what He has called me to do. He has a plan for my obedience, He has a plan that betters His Kingdom and His people. I just get to play a part, no matter how small it feels, it is significant to Him. I was focused on the wrong person in my previous statements, I was focused on me instead of God.

Some reasons why I can and will continue to do this and why your obedience in anything He asks you to do will have an impact.

Obedience is a key part of our walk with God.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Proverbs 3:5-6

Therefore, gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts.
1 Peter 1:13-14

And his affections are greater for you as he remembers the obedience of you all, how with fear and trembling you received him.
2 Corinthians 7:15

For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.
Romans 5:19

We all have a testimony.

But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of the darkness into His marvelous light.
1 Peter 2:9

And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.
Revelation 12:11

Therefore, do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel according to the power of God.
2 Timothy 1:8

We all have a purpose.

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
Romans 8:28

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.
Jeremiah 29:11

Jesus died for us, and our lives are His.

I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
Galatians 2:20

We are children of God.

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:  who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
John 1:12

We were created in His image to speak of His glory and favor and share the good news of the Gospel.

So, God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
Genesis 1:27

Declare His glory among all nations, His wonders among all peoples.
Psalm 96:3

And for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
Ephesians 6:19-20

We are meant to be free from the negative thoughts that have held us back

Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.
Galatians 5:1

Therefore, if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.
John 8:36

We have not been given a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
2 Timothy 1:7

So, today is the beginning of a new level of obedience. Will you join me in listening to His calling?

Dear God,

I have been given the right to be Your child. I thank you that I have been fearfully and wonderfully made, that you crafted me in Your image. The image of a perfect God.

Help me to walk worthy of the calling that you have placed on my life. Quicken my spirit to hear Your voice and submit with obedience. Help me to always remember that through You I have freedom and am no longer entangled by the yoke of bondage, fear, and shame. You have brought me out of the darkness and into Your marvelous light. You have given me a testimony and call me to share the Gospel to those around me.

Continue to grow me spiritually and give me the confidence to share the testimony that You entrusted me with unashamed.

Thank You for all that You are, all that You’ve done, and all that You will do.

Amen
